Happy Australia Day

Ah, a lovely day for burning sausages, burning skin and drink beer (if you like beer).
Hooray for wholesome fun organised by Sydney city. It was off to the Rocks for free live music by great bands.

Dan Kelly. First time I've seen him perform, was the highlight of the day for me, despite the purposeful coarse language. Look a uke! though bigger than I prefer.

Also watched Kate Miller-Heidke and Angie Hart.

And Something for Kate.
Lunch was had at Zia Pina Pizzeria. The spaghetti bolognaise and ravioli was well received, but the pizza was a tad bare. Tasty enough though I suppose. There is a place that I dont mind the look of in the Rocks called Dare (Delicious and Responsible Eating). Every time I go past there always so many people. And can I pass the marketing of 'responsible eating' and in-store baked goods? Next time maybe.

My baby is here!

It's here! It's here! SO exciting!
Unfortunatly there was a miscarriage at first, but then a second came out perfectly fine.

My very own lil geetar!

Or more precisely....a ukulele.

I originally put an order in for a solid red one and was told that there was a 2 week wait. Fair enough I though, I must learn patience. I had been tempted to go for the yellow since it was in stock, but no, it had to be red. 3 weeks went by, nothing. One month on, nothing. It was terrible!

Giving up hope I thought I might as well browse elsewhere. And there my baby was, sitting there looking all shiny and pretty and better than I had imagined the previous to be, along with all it's other fine looking friends of an ungaudy green, blue and brown.

Oh I love it. Just the right size and colour for meeee.

I'm so proud of myself, I've learnt 3 chords. Pity I cant tune it properly. But ooooh I'm so excited. Kiddy songs, here I come.

The Porkers

Off to the Annandale it was, last Saturday night. Thought I'd try something different and went to see the ska/punk type bands that were playing. That night it was The Porkers supported by Bagster and Daddy Frisco, all of which I had never heard of. Apparently The Porkers are really well known and have been around since 1987, and I could tell by all the ppl with their band shirts and knowing all the songs. Golly I didnt even know what a radio was in 87.

I liked Bagster. It was quite exciting for me when I saw the brass - trumpet and trombone. They added a cool contrast to the drumming and guitaring that was going on at the same time, and blended well for my ears.
Whereas with The Porkers, they seemed too heavy for my ears and the funky ska sounds with the trombone and saxaphone made me think 'oh no a heavy bit is coming up when they arent going to be playing'.

Overall an ok night. I was more in the mood for mellow music that whole day, but hey now I know and it's one I can cross off my list.

Work eating highlight for this week so far: Tasting 3 cakes that contained different cocoa powders.

Passable bodginess

Is that ugly, or is that ugly? Or more likely, what is that?
Unethusiasm ensures poor workmanship.

On the top is my given up attempt at making it look decent. On the bottom is mum's attempt to fix it up. Made no difference to me.

It's supposedly a penguin. Again a copy from the Women's Weekly cookbook. As you can see from what it is suppose to look like in the book, it is not that at all. It took me a while to realise that I had forgotten about the mouth.
My poor sister it's her 13th birthday cake. Oh well, it's cake, it's cream, just eat it.
It is possible that the unenthusiasm is due to the 6:30 wake up call, of a reminder set on my phone that it was her birthday.
Or perhaps it was from another self-inflicted late night out. Possibly...It was worth it.

Went to the Annandale to see The Panics with Bertie Blackman and Sparkadia.
All round, the music was pretty good. Sparkadia is growing on me quite a bit, probably cos of more air play on JJJ. It was funny watching the drummer suddenly smile mouth wide open while playing. I wasnt that much keen on Bertie though, they played more heavy stuff from her new album, than I was expecting. It was clever though she made up an instrument using a BMW hub cap, added chains, and a handle to the back and played it with a drumstick. It was funny watching the drummer suddenly smile mouth wide open while playing...again (different drummer too)

Quite like The Panics. I thought I wouldnt like it as much since I hadn't heard much of their stuff, but I did. Easy to nod your head to. One of the guitarist was cute too. huh huh. I really liked the sound of the keyboard with the other instruments. Quaint intros.

On a totally different note, uni results are out............
I passed!
*phew* In fact I'm pretty psyched, I got a distinction :D I think that equates to an Honours Class 2, Dvn 1; or something.
Hoorah. That's done with. Couldnt have managed without supervisors help though, it was a mighty long slog. Dont really think I deserve it. But as I said, it's done.
Celebrating time I think.
