the art of sandwiches

"There is an art to the business of making sandwiches which it is given to few ever to find the time to explore in depth. It is a simple task, but the opportunities for satisfaction are many and profound: choosing the right bread for instance...There was also the geometry of the slice to be refined...The proper tools, of course, were crucial...There were those in the village who were happy chopping wood, those who were content carrying water, but to be the Sandwich Maker was very heaven."
- Mostly Harmless, Douglas Adams (The fifth book in the increasingly inaccurately named Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy)

haha. indeed. someone who knows their sandwiches. there certainly is an art. i just finished this book, its the last of the series. they were pretty good, funny if you can follow the waffling and confusion. its kinda like how i think, and speak sometimes. hmm. the movie (Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy) is funny too, i'd recommend u watch it.
anyway back to the art of sandwiches. i went to uni on friday cos i had a class. i was just thinkin it would just be for a few hrs or so and that it'd be back home in time for lunch, so i didnt bother bringing anything. How wrong was i! ended up being there from 9-5. wat was i to do? no lunch. how terrible! the mere thought of it made me sad. and so i had to accept that i was to do the unthinkable. yes my dear friends, i BOUGHT from the CAFETERIA. it is true. in the 3yrs that i've been there i've never bought a thing but i had no choice. i got a salad sandwich after much thought. the meat ones were too meaty.
it was nice and fat with vegetables, but as with all salads, if its just salad even i must admit that it doesnt have much taste. the entire time i was eating i was thinkin of the sweet butteriness of the avocado that i had at home. or even just a squidgy of mayo. alas no.
oh to the art. the bread was wholemeal from memory, bonus. and wasnt dry. and it was cut triangularly even, lovely. BUT one must remember that when u take one bite it should contain most of the fillings. and not just placed in the centre leaving the edges lonely. there was no loving in this bread. an overall disappointing sandwich despite its fullness in appearance and in the stomach.
